A water main at the corner of South Crouse Avenue and University Place burst Thursday night, gushing water into the street outside the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
The water main broke at approximately 7:30 p.m., according to Syracuse University Fire Safety officials at the scene.
It was unclear at the time whether the water main break would affect water use at campus buildings and when the water main break would be fixed, the officers said.
To fix the break, the water will have to be shut off and the main will have to be dug up and reburied, the officers said.
University Place remains closed off from E. S. Bird Library to South Crouse Avenue.
